Call to
order
President Pulido called to order the regular meeting of the Dearborn
Federation of Neighborhood Association at 7:30
pm on Wednesday,
February 3, 2010 in the
Mayor’s Conference Room.

Pulido congratulated the 2010 DFNA officers who were
elected at the December 2009 meeting, President, Terry
Pulido, Vice-President, Mary Petlichkoff, Secretary,
Dave Tillman and Ned Nikodem, Treasurer.

Approval of minutes from last meeting
The
DFNA minutes for January, 2010 passed
with unanimity.
III.III.
Treasurer’s Report
Treasurer Nikodem
reported a balance of $734.43 as of January 31, 2010.
President Pulido
informed the Federation of a correction.
It was clarified that Eastborn Neighborhood
Association had paid their 2009 dues and thus were
entitled to vote in the December DFNA election. An apology for the mistake was extended to Eastborn President
Marium Wilkie.
IV.IV.
Guest Speaker, Greg Orner,
Director, Dearborn Recreation Department
Greg Orner,
Director, Dearborn Recreation Department, provided an
overview of the 2010-2015 Recreation Master Plan process
by presenting a hand-out and reviewing its contents.
He discussed the Recreation Department Survey,
available for all residents to submit before the
February 19th deadline, as part of a process
of engagement every five years.
This survey, the Mayoral Task Force, and other
sources of input will be solicited as a way to inform
and shape this Master Plan moving forward.
He then addressed all of the group’s questions.

Guest Speaker, John B O’Reilly, Mayor, City
of Dearborn
Mayor
John B. O’Reilly provided an overview and update on
Dearborn Matters and Projects.

The
Mayor described the Community Task Force, a group of
Community members who will be meeting over the
course of the next few months to help articulate the
priorities and key issues of the five-year city
plan.

The
Mayor described the beneficial economic
opportunities when winning the demonstration project
status for the Intermodal Train Station development
in Dearborn. Once
Dearborn completes and proves eligibility over the
next three years, the next phase will ensue.

The
Mayor also discussed the progress of creating a
Convention Center here, too.

The
Mayor discussed plans for a new “Welcome to
Dearborn” campaign for commercial property.
He talked about an example of a great
initiative - Ford Land’s commercial real estate
rental opportunities, including 3 free years of
rental if more than 20,000 square feet rented.

The
Mayor then addressed all the group’s questions
involving commercial property, roads, the sewer
separation project as well.

VI.
“Thoughts For DFNA Consideration”
Marcel J. Pultorak, Treasurer, Snow Woods Neighborhood
Association, distributed
suggestions for the DFNA as related to neighborhood
associations and the community at
large. Examples:
Common Shared Legal Structure, Shared Communications
Tools, Shared
Technology Tools, Promote Partnerships, etc.
President Pulido thanked Marcel for his
suggestions. She
added that the DFNA Executive Board members would review
his proposal
for later discussion with the DFNA membership.

The motion was approved to
adjourn at 9:43 pm.
The
next DFNA meeting will take place on Wednesday, March 3,
2010, 7:30 p.m.
